SPECIAL MENTION

I should like to dedicate this post to a wonderful person who keeps us entertained with their story telling and goats and chickens and bees, whose talents are seemingly endless, (notwithstanding their slow boat-building and blogging abilities). Last week-end, this person went out of their way to procure me a rare eucalypt and stated that a blog post here would be more than sufficient recompense for this. Et voilà!

GREEN BRITAIN

Just in case it had passed you by, Friday was Green Britain Day when we were all supposed to be more eco-friendly for the good of the planet (and for the Olympic Team although quite why it's linked to them, I'm not sure). Personally, I don't need a special day to be doing all those hippie recycling, tree-hugging things but obviously green is the new black. And the dress is quite appealing!

Happy Birthday to you!

NEWBEES

Sunday was a very special day, for it was on this day, that my new bees and I were introduced to each other! Having donned the special gear of the apiarist (oh yes!) and armed with smoker to 'pacify' them, off we went to disturb their little bee world. Quite naturally, they raised their voices as the hive roofs were exposed for all to see, but it was worth it to see, literally, a hive of activity. We witnessed: queen bee, (identifiable by an elongated, slender body, oh, and the vivid green dot painted unceremoniously on her back), apiaricide (needs must, apparently, when so many new queen cells are being raised), the hatchings of some new baby bees and tasted honey straight from the comb - delicious! Can’t wait for their imminent arrival in the garden! And the hive, although not white and lovely, is actually quite fetching ;p
